How to Encourage Donors to Donate to Your Sweepstakes More Than Once

About 25% of TapKat donors are repeat donors. That means that they’ll enter your sweepstakes once, get excited again later, and donate again to up their chances of taking home the prize.

What’s more, these same donors tend to donate year after year if your prizes are similar enough that the audience overlaps.

So, how can you encourage your donors to contribute more than once to your TapKat sweepstakes? Here are some ideas.

When Will Donors Enter a TapKat Sweepstakes More Than Once?

Keep in mind that TapKat sweepstakes typically last a long time, depending on the size of the prize and how much money the nonprofit is trying to raise. TapKat sweepstakes typically last between 2 weeks and 12 months. The longer the sweepstakes, the more likely it is that donors will enter more than one time.

So, if you’re running a big-ticket prize like The Shelby American Automobile Club’s recent sweepstakes for a Twin Supercharged 427 "Super Snake" Cobra, you’ll be most successful if you run the sweepstakes for a longer period of time. We recommend between 7-12 months.

During that time, your donors will enter more than once if you do a good job promoting the sweepstakes.

How to Promote a TapKat Sweepstakes so Donors Enter More Than Once

It will come down to three things:

  1. Remind your donor base that the sweepstakes is still running,

  2. Get them excited about your prize on an ongoing basis,

  3. Use flash contests to build more buzz!

Email

If you’re running a sweepstakes that lasts longer than a couple weeks, chances are your donors aren’t thinking about it on a daily basis. Hey, life is busy these days, and it is likely that months will go by from the time your donor first enters to the time the winner is drawn! Keep your sweepstakes top of mind by regularly emailing your donor base with updates.

Promo Codes

Be sure to use promo codes to keep donors excited. Promo codes area easy to create in your TapKat dashboard, and they are so effective in helping you raise more money, we recommend using promo codes for all your sweepstakes promotions. For instance, if you decide to send a New Year’s email, create a promo code like HAPPYNEWYEAR for 20% more entries. Donors love it!

Flash Contests

Flash contests are another highly effective way to build buzz around your sweepstakes. Essentially, a flash contest is a sweepstakes within a sweepstakes. The Shelby American Collection ran a very successful flash contest at the end of 2022 where everyone who donated within a certain period of time also received a limited-edition keychain. Donors loved it, and people who had already entered once were inspired to enter again.

Put all three of these practices together, sprinkle in some social media marketing, and you’ll have a recipe for success with your sweepstakes!

How to Make More Money Each Year with a TapKat Sweepstakes

Raising money with your first sweepstakes is a lot of fun. Raising more money with each subsequent sweepstakes is a total blast — and many of our nonprofits have found that they can be successful year after year.

Just like momentum builds within a single sweepstakes, momentum will also build year after year as long as you keep your sweepstakes prizes consistent.

So, if you offer a beach vacation during year one, offer another beach vacation year two. If you offer a classic muscle car during year one, offer a classic muscle car during year two. You get the idea.

This works because as you build your base of interested donors, you’re essentially creating a database of people who want to win a particular type of prize. Keeping your prize consistent over the course of multiple sweepstakes will keep these donors interested, and build the momentum of your sweepstakes fundraising strategy.

And momentum is definitely the name of the game when it comes to sweepstakes.
