How a Car Museum with a Small Staff Raised Over 1 Million Dollars with a TapKat Sweepstakes Fundraiser

The Strategy: The nonprofit National Sprint Car Hall of Fame has run consecutive TapKat sweepstakes for the past few years. Each year their grand prize is an exciting, new Corvette. As a result, they have built a donor base that is highly engaged and enthusiastic about their sweepstakes fundraiser and the possibility of winning a new Corvette. This strategy helped them raise over $1 million dollars with their 2022 sweepstakes. In 2023 their sweepstakes raised a new record: $1.3 million.

The Story: The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame located in Knoxville, Iowa, is a Mecca for racing fans around the world. Situated adjacent to the Knoxville Raceway, it is the only museum dedicated to the history of sprint car racing. In 2019, they ran their first TapKat sweepstakes for a Z06 Corvette Coupe and raised $245,000 from their donor base.

Encouraged with the new source of funding, Sprint Car made the wise choice to run a second sweepstakes in 2020 for a Z51 Corvette Stingray and raised $592,650 — more than doubling their raise from the previous year! One thing was clear: The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame was on to a highly successful new method of fundraising, and they wanted to continue the momentum.

In 2022, they ran a sweepstakes for a Limited Edition IMSA GTLM Championship Corvette C8.R and raised $1,020,550 for the museum, breaking the million dollar mark for the first time. They broke it again in 2023, raising $1,320,400. It was a thrilling moment for the museum, and only strengthened their commitment to sweepstakes fundraising. Raising money, a task that had felt overwhelming and disheartening before sweepstakes, has become a fulfilling and fun part of the museum's strategy.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Bob Baker, the museum has done an excellent job promoting their sweepstakes which has been key to their success. You can read more about their strategies in our 2021 interview with Bob here.

A hearty congrats to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame!
