Fun Ways to Get Board Members Involved in Your TapKat Sweepstakes

Your nonprofit board members serve an important role. Along with providing organizational guidance, facilitating important introductions, and supporting the fundraising process, board members also create an important bridge into the community.

They are people who care deeply about your cause and want to see your organization thrive! So, what better way for them to support your mission than by getting involved in promoting your TapKat sweepstakes?

Board members' participation can make a massive difference when it comes to the success of your sweepstakes. Remember: the more people that know about your sweepstakes, the more funds you're likely to raise.

Here are some fun ideas to help board members feel ownership and excitement about sweepstakes fundraising (and if you're still trying to get your board on board with your sweepstakes, read this).

Create a Friendly Board Members-Only Contest

Your TapKat sweepstakes comes with a very cool built-in promo code feature. Each promo code you create will give donors a percentage more entries for the same donation amount, and you can designate what that percentage will be for each individual code. We have found that promo codes increase donor enthusiasm, and are often responsible for donors choosing to give more than once to a particular sweepstakes.

You can create unlimited promo codes for your sweepstakes, at any point in the process until the sweepstakes is closed. Promo codes will also help you track which donations are coming in from which promotions.

Consider creating a special promo code for each board member. Maybe it's just their name plus a number that indicates the percentage of additional entries they'll receive (for example, MARILYN25 or TIMOTHY35, etc.)

Challenge your board members to reach out to their social groups and interested family members with their promo code in a friendly competition to see who can raise the most money with their individual promo code. At the end, you might give away a fun prize for the board member that is most successful — perhaps the prize is a coveted parking space, a gift certificate to a local eatery, or a spa day!

Remind your board members that personalized messages are best when reaching out over email or social media. Here is some suggested text you can share with your board members:

Hi John,

As you know, I'm very involved with the Riggs County Animal Rescue. I'm a member of the board because I believe so strongly in their mission to find loving homes for animals that have been mistreated or abandoned. Right now, we're running a sweepstakes for a new snowmobile (check it out here), and if you're interested, I'd love for you to enter! You can use TAMMI20 to receive 20% more entries for your donation. Thanks very much for your support!

Sincerely, Tammi

At the end of your sweepstakes, you can easily calculate which board member raised the most, and congratulate your board’s winner. Remember, the idea is to create a lighthearted competition that will give your board members an easy way to do some outreach into the community.

Ask Your Board Members for TapKat Sweepstakes Prize Ideas, or Prize Donations

One of the most fun aspects of TapKat sweepstakes is selecting a prize that your donor base will love. (Need some ideas? Check out our prize ideas document here.) In most situations, we suggest that nonprofits find a way to get their prize on consignment, particularly if it's a big-ticket item, such as a car or vacation.

However, donated prizes can also be great! Board members are often people who have access to resources, and may be in a position to donate an exciting prize to your TapKat sweepstakes. If that's not the case, they may have a connection to a car dealership, bike shop, hotelier, or another vendor that will be willing to hold a prize on consignment for you.

And of course, it's always a great idea to include your board members in the conversation about what would make a great prize for your donor base! You never know what the collective hive mind may think of, and it's just another way to help your board members feel a sense of emotional investment in your organization.

Ask Board Members to Help Promote the TapKat Sweepstakes

Promotion is a big part of the sweepstakes journey. We encourage our nonprofit customers to promote their sweepstakes through email, social media, live events, and on their nonprofit website

All those practices are important — and it's also always important to find ways to reach new people! This is where your board members can help. If they own a local business, ask them to support the sweepstakes. Here are some ways they can do that

  • They can send a dedicated email about the sweepstakes to their base.

  • They can post on social media, with links back to your sweepstakes site.

  • They can put up a notice about your sweepstakes on the homepage of their website.

  • They can post flyers and postcards in their brick-and-mortar, and hand out postcards to customers and friends.

Of course, there's always word of mouth! Sharing with others in the community is a really great way to help raise awareness and get more eyeballs on your fundraiser.

Help Your Board Members Help You Fundraise

Some board members will be proactive about jumping in and finding ways to be helpful. Others need a little assistance in understanding where they can be the most effective when it comes to supporting your fundraising activities.

The good news is, when you provide suggestions and guidance like the ideas above, many board members will be eager to get the ball rolling and make a contribution to help boost the return on all your hard work!
